with hour to go before maryland joins nine other states along with washington dc to recognize gay couples who want to marry. >> i see it as a celebration of the life we've created together over all of these years. >> they're getting married in a private ceremony with the reception starting before their vows and several couples are showing up at city hall. wehave a crew there and will bring you more in the morning. . >> here's where we got to in this point, the house and senate passed a bill known as the civil marriage protection act. governor mor o'malley signed it and then opponents got enough suspects to put it to a statewide referendum and voters approved it.

the senate closing out 2012 with a deal. with little time to spare they hammered out a deal. deal or no deal, the u.s. is destined to go over the cliff a- because the house adjourned monday night and will reconvene new year's day. vice presidentbiden went to the hill earlier in the day to meet. >> earlier president obama had harsh words. >> if they think i will finish the job in spebding cuts -- spending cuts alone they've got another thing coming. >> the deal will increase estate tax and bring back clinton era tax cuts. fromhouse holds earning 250 thousand dollars a year reportedly to those making 4 hundred and 50 thousand dollars.
